The mission was launched within seven months and has scaled quickly. The Union Cabinet approved the National Mission on Natural Farming on 25 November 2024, and the Ministry of Agriculture reported to Parliament on 11 August 2026 that 24,102 clusters covering 12.60 lakh hectares have been formed, with 26.76 lakh farmers enrolled, 8,100 bio-input resource centres established and 40,182 Krishi Sakhis and community resource persons deployed. The mission's own target is one crore farmers on 7.5 lakh hectares — so area is already well ahead of it and enrolment is nearly three times the farmer target. What the ministry does not hold is who these farmers are or where: 'District wise data as well as gender data is not maintained centrally.'
“Strengthening Natural Farming — We will launch the National Mission on Natural Farming to promote nature-friendly, climate-resilient, remunerative agriculture for food and nutrition secure [Bharat].”No CAG performance audit published
No CAG performance audit covering this scheme has been published. The absence of an audit is not evidence that the claim is either accurate or inaccurate.
No CAG audit of the National Mission on Natural Farming has been tabled. The evidence on yields is from an ICAR network study described qualitatively, without figures, in the ministry's answer.
No audit period to plot — no CAG performance audit covering this scheme has been published.
24,102 clusters covering 12.60 lakh hectares; 26.76 lakh farmers enrolled; 8,100 bio-input resource centres
Enrolment is a count of farmers registered in a cluster, not of farmers who have converted their whole holding. The answer reports no yield, income or input-cost figures for enrolled farmers.
Lok Sabha Starred Question No. 331, Promotion of Natural Farming — answer by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare
The 2024 promise is an institutional one: "We will launch the National Mission on Natural Farming to promote nature-friendly, climate-resilient, remunerative agriculture."
It was launched. "The Union Cabinet approved the National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF) on 25th November 2024" — seven months after the manifesto, which by the standards of this corpus is fast.
Scale-up has been fast too. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare told the Lok Sabha on 11 August 2026: "Till date, 24,102 clusters have been formed covering 12.60 lakh Ha area, 26.76 lakh farmers enrolled, 8,100 Bio-Input Resource Centres (BRCs) established and 40,182 Krishi Sakhi/Community Resource Persons (CRPs) deployed under the Mission."
Set against the mission's own approved targets — one crore farmers and 7.5 lakh hectares over the mission period — the area covered is already well past target and enrolment is nearly triple the farmer number. On the face of it, this is one of the few programmes in this corpus running ahead of its own plan.
Which is exactly why the qualifications matter.
Enrolment counts farmers registered in a cluster. It does not mean a farmer has converted their whole holding to natural farming, or that they will still be practising it in three years — conversion typically costs yield in the first cycles, which is the standard reason adoption reverses. The answer publishes no figure for yield, income or input costs among enrolled farmers.
Monitoring has a hole in it. "District wise data as well as gender data is not maintained centrally." A mission built on clusters, bio-input centres and community resource persons cannot say which districts its 12.60 lakh hectares are in, or how many of the 26.76 lakh farmers are women — while separately reporting 40,182 Krishi Sakhis, a cadre defined by being women.
And the scientific case is stated conditionally. The ICAR network programme running since 2020-21 across 20 centres in 16 states "shows that if natural farming is adopted with the correct techniques and in a balanced manner, yields improve", with lower chemical costs raising net profit. No yield or income numbers accompany that in the answer.
The term runs to 2029, so this is an interim reading and delivery is recorded as partly delivered. The mission was promised and launched, and it is growing faster than planned. Our verdict is partly accurate.
